Our Thoughts

 

Automated Presort developed its business philosophy after serious reflection. We stepped back for a moment and considered our customers, our employees, the industry and how they interface with one another.

 

These are some of the values we determined:

 

1. Clients - We have an appreciation of the critical value brought to us by our customers. Without them, we cease to exist. With them, we thrive. In some instances, working with them as a team, we improve an element of something we already do. In all cases, we strive to understand client needs and serve them.

 

2. Mail Preparation Total Quality Management (MPTQM) - Our commitment to quality has never been this great. We appreciate the value of integrating quality into standard procedures. Our clients realize the benefit of quality processing. Find more specifics under “Our Place” below.

 

3. Thinking Outside the Lines - In such a competitive environment, we pride ourselves in coming up with innovations to make our clients’ lives a little simpler -- and their postage less expensive. 4. Our People - Sorting equipment and trucks do not operate themselves. We work hard at making sure our team members understand our full appreciation of them. Find specifics under “Our Team” below.

 

Having the vision noted above is essential, but the greater challenge to most businesses is the capital necessary to back up the theory. Automated Presort has made necessary investments to implement the above thoughts. Read on . . . “Our Place.”

 

 

Our Place

 

The Automated Presort physical plant certainly offers a feeling of comfort to mailers. A tour of the facility would show the following:

 

1. Presort Volume - We regularly process First-Class and Standard Mail commingled mailings ranging of up to six million pieces, sometimes even more. Our volumes put us at an elite rank; few presort bureaus across the country can come close.  This provides our customers with excellent densities to expedite their mail through the postal system.

 

2. Capital Investment - We now have fifteen sorters, thirteen with Multi-Line Optical Character Readers; each has 258 bins or more. This has opened up the door to more 5-Digit qualifications and SCF destination discounts for Standard Mail. These qualification levels mean clients’ mail is delivered faster.

 

3. Mail Preparation Total Quality Management – We practice this program on an ongoing basis. We first qualified in 1999. The criteria were set to be similar to the Malcolm Baldridge, Six Sigma and the ISO 9000 series. A mailer using us rests assured the mail will be processed accurately.

 

4. Expedited First-Class Postal Transportation – We have seven postal trucks to pick up our First Class mail daily. These trailer-trucks deliver our mail directly to the respective local USPS destination facility or to the appropriate USPS plant for mail destined outside of the Chicago area. This means your mail never goes to a common, originating postal facility to get dock-transferred before moving on to the appropriate postal plant. Mailing through us moves your mail directly to the most appropriate facility as it leaves our door.

 

5. Disaster Recovery – Having two production plants affords us a contingency plan to utilize the opposite site’s equipment to process critical mail. Choosing API is the best decision to keep mail moving in the worst of circumstances.

 

6. Powerful Back-up – We have a generator for electrical emergencies that is strong enough to power all the needs of our operation and office. Even extended power outages will not affect the flow of your mail.

 

7. Security – We offer clients a secure building. Sixteen cameras observe the total premises: offices as well as plant, inside as well as outside, and upstairs as well as downstairs. We do thorough reference and job history checks for new hires, drug screenings prior to hire for drivers and random drug screening. The building is locked down and in view of the cameras. The mailers’ precious product is safe here.

 

8. Air-conditioned Work Environment - The all-season controlled temperature has facilitated efficiencies with machines and more focus for employees. This is additional rationale to count on the precise processing of clients’ mail.

 

9. Technicians on Site - We have three-shift coverage on our letter sorters. The support during first and second shifts is from technicians contracted from the manufacturer of our sorters. This keeps the machines at top performance and our customers’ mail processed quickly.

 

Clear, creative thinking and capital spent to execute ideas are important. But, what if a company’s personnel are lacking training or experience or, even more troublesome, they don’t care? Our Heart

 

To start, a company’s employees must know how to do it. Then, they must do it. Finally, maybe most importantly, they should want to do it. The Automated Presort staff exceeds in all three measures.

1. Client Service - We have an outstanding track record of going the extra mile to accommodate customers. This includes a general attitude of “moving to solution” to get customers’ mail out swiftly. Our staff takes great pride in answering challenges for mailers.

 

2. Long-tenure Clients - Our client relationships are long-term, many having been with us in excess of ten years. Our clients know they can trust us because they have fruitfully done so for years. 

 

3. Postal Expertise - Regarding U.S.P.S. regulations, we have answers. This includes the Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMb), MERLIN, Move Update, automation compatibility and much more. When we need to “source” the Postal Service, we have contacts with the answers. Our customers count on us as postal consultants with rapid and accurate answers.

 

4. Mail Preparation Total Quality Management - The MPTQM program requires a commitment far beyond doing enough to earn a paycheck. From top management down, the mindset required and delivered for such a process takes something special from the staff. Something from the heart. Find specifics under “Our Place.”

 

5. Standard Mail Strategy – Determining a better way to do something is often a challenge. It requires us to think “outside the lines.” Even though our “One-Pass” program was difficult to master, we knew it was right for the customer and smart for us. We got it right and the reward has been excellent. Clients take heart in knowing their mailing partner worked at it until the change generated benefits for everyone involved.

Our Team

 

While a dedicated team (one with heart) is critical to the accurate processing of customers’ mail, one with experience is important as well. The knowledge available to mailers through the Automated Presort team is simply excellent.

 

Here are some points regarding our crew:

 

1. The Whole Staff - Everyone on our team has access to benefits such as health insurance and paid vacations. This reduces turnover, meaning that experienced personnel will handle clients’ mail.

 

2. Managers and Supervisors with Know-how - The expertise offered at our supervisory level is most impressive. Three of our supervisors have ten or more years in the presort industry. All of our managers have at least ten years in the commingling business. Our customers’ mail benefits from their experience.

 

3. Trade Association Membership - We belong to all the major trade groups and serve as officers in two. The list includes: All four Postal Customer Councils (PCC’s) that touch the Chicago area, and Mail Systems Management Association (MSMA) Chicago Chapter. Our continuing education and our developing of relationships keep us sharp to solve the inevitable challenges regarding clients’ mail.

 

4. Minority / Woman Owned - We are certified by the Chicago Minority Business Development Council. This could be important not only to your organization but to companies with whom you do business.

 

5. One of Chicago’s Top Privately Owned Businesses - Automated Presort is owned by Pethi Velu, his wife, Param (majority) and their children. API is part of a group of mailing related companies owned by the Veluchamy Family that recently branded itself as Vmark. It is one of the largest private enterprises in the Chicago area, per Crain’s Chicago Business.

 

6. Our Clients - We saved the best team member for last. Our customers are an integral part of our team’s success. The first value we discerned in our philosophy noted above was that which we assigned to our clients. (See “Our Thoughts.”)  Another indication of the importance our customers represent to us would be the seemingly infinite number of times the words “client(s’)” or “customer(s’)” appear on this site compared to the fewer times the words “Automated Presort” appears.
